Who Is Eligible for a Family-Based Adjustment of Status?

You may apply for a green card via family-based adjustment of status while you are already and lawfully present in the U.S. The process does not require you to go back to your home country. If you currently live abroad, you may apply for a green card through Immigrant Visa Processing or IVP.

If you receive a two-year green card, you need to apply to remove the conditions on your permanent resident status at a later date. In either case, if you maintain your green card status, you can apply for naturalization in the future.
